Super Fast Memory Chip In The Works

Elpida Memory Inc. and Sharp Corp. will jointly develop a next-generation, low-power memory chip to be commercialized around 2013, according to a media report Wednesday. The Nikkei business daily reported that the resistive random access memory chip to be developed by Elpida and Sharp could write data 10,000 times faster than NAND flash memory technology, while consuming less power. The National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology and the University of Tokyo will also be joining in the development of the chip, according to the report.
